This paper is one of the first to demonstrate the incorporation of graphite oxide into PMMA to form a nanocomposite with enhanced thermal and mechanical performance. The authors demonstrate that the GO sheets interact well with the PMMA polymer matrix and perform as good as single-wall CNTs PMMA nanocomposites at the same loadings. The supplemental information on the Nature website has valuable information for those interested in making CNT or GO-nanocomposites. For example, the authors indicate that sonication dispersion of bundled CNTs is a better route of dispersion in the polymer matrix than high-shear rate mixing.
