In this paper, the authors pick up an interesting effect called plasmonic effects and apply it to an inverted tandem polymer solar cell configuration by blending Au nanoparticles (NPs) into the interconnecting layer (ICL) that connects two subcells. The experiment result shows that the effect can improve the efficiency of cells by 20% while enhancing optical absorption at the same time. This plasmonic effect can also be used for other conventional device structure in achieving highly efficient polymer solar cells.
