In this work, the authors demonstrated octadecyltrimethoxysilane (OTMS)-functionalized, spectrally tuned, gold/silica (Au/SiO2) core/shell nano-sphere and apply them to active layers in polymer solar cells to increase the power conversion efficiency. The function of the Au/SiO2 core/shell nanoparticles are analyzed and the improvement (the increase of power efficiency) was demonstrated.
