Ultrafast electron diffraction using an ultracold source

posted by Timofey Golubev, 06.10.2014, 22:55

This is one example of the numerous recent advancements in the ultrafast structural dynamics field. Here the authors show that using extremely low temperature electron sources (~10K) results in a high spatial coherence which makes it possible to study smaller samples including nano-structures. I think these improvements in ultrafast electron diffraction techniques will lead a better understanding of nanoscale structural dynamics.
