In this work the authors describe the first confirmation of macroscopic volume plasmon resonances in metal nanocluster molecules. Whereas in metals photoabsorption is unable to excite these longitudinal plasmons (owing to momentum conservation), this has been theorized to not be the case in nanoclusters, and the experimenters have here shown the first evidence of optically excited volume plasmon collective electronic states, making this article an excellent Highlight in Nanotechnology.
