Nanowire dye-sensitized solar cells

posted by Timofey Golubev, 28.09.2014, 18:20

The replacement of the nanoparticle film with nanowires seems to be a very good idea. This changes the electron transport from a diffusion process to a more direct transport along the nanowires. The fact that the authors found that the electron diffusivity for nanowire solar cells was several hundred times larger than that for nanoparticle films suggests that nanowire cells have a potential to be much more efficient. I was surprised that even with this large improvement in electron diffusivity, the efficiency of the devices is reported to be only 1.5%. I am curious if any improvements in efficiency have been achieved since this work was published in 2005.
